We went there after dark and I couldn’t determine how wheelchair accessible the place was. Once you get out of the parking lot and get onto the concrete platform it would be very easy to maneuver a wheelchair. The viewing area has a few backless benches but there is plenty of room to bring camp chairs. AT&T cell services was very good there.
Great place to view the lights. Complete with clean restrooms and telescopes that are adequate for this viewing. Good parking. Well lit with shielded lights. No need to rush. From an hour after sunset there are many lights to see on a clear night. The flashing red one is a Marker light on a microwave tower. All the other lights are .......?
Nice elevated viewing area for hopefully seeing the Marfa lights. You can still sit out on the ground near the fence if you prefer. Parking lot can be busy during prime viewing times with cars pulling in and out. Restrooms are decent but no running water. Overall , very much improved compared to back in the day when this was just a parking lot on the side of the highway.
It was a great experience. Lights did appear, was very entertaining. Recommend going in the late night.
The lights always appear and stay in the same general direction, first appearing in the upper left of the blinking red light and eventually moving towards the right, appearing and disappearing but always in the same spot as they keep on moving to the lower right of the blinking tower light.
Very disappointing.
While camping at Ft. Davis we took a night to go and visit the Marfa Viewing Area. It is a bit farther out from Marfa than we expected. The place was rather large with a large parking lot. Every place except the dark parking lot and the bathrooms were sparsely lit by red lights in order to protect your night vision. The big round building you see in the photographs house the bathrooms. They have vault toilets.
The place is top notch, plenty of parking, however the lights... they're headlights from traffic on HWY 67 headed northbound towards Marfa, I brought my high powered binoculars and I could even see tail lights from traffic headed southbound that you obviously couldn't see with the naked eye.
