The bartender and ambience were wonderful in this small west Texas town. We were visiting from San Antonio, and this bar gave us a little sophistication :).
The stay was pleasant, staff was friendly. Room was a bit small and needed more attention to detail as far as cleanliness goes. Couple areas with collected dirt and dust in the corners of the room and bathroom. Enjoyed the vintage feel with a creepy touch. Slept great though. I would come back..
Quaint old West style hotel. Standard room is small but fine for one person. Bathroom was pretty small. They allow pets and I heard distant howling, barking and yapping well into the night. Not a place for anyone that cannot climb stairs. No elevator and a long steep set of stairs to the second floor. Staff was great. Restaurant food was very good. Large chicken-fried steak was delicious and large.
Dinner at hotel restaurant. No starter. Main course - lemon linguine, okay. Dessert - warm chocolate brownie, good. Served an enormous glass of mid-price 10 year tawney port - not bad. Service unfortunately quite slow, but this seem to result from an unexpected number of walk-in guests.
This is a fine hotel to stay in, but some rooms could be more functional. I had an old shower that would turn scalding hot every so often, but my friend's room had a new shower with great water pressure. It's hit or miss. Sounds travel very well through the halls of the hotel, so don't be surprised if you're awoken by others making noise.
Staff is very friendly, however.
